A WOMAN resisted police who caught up with her soon after she stole a laptop computer from the principal's office at Newcastle High School, a court was told yesterday.

Lisa Barbara Miller, 23, of no fixed address, was charged with stealing from the Hamilton South school on November 15, resisting police and having in her possession other items thought to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.

She did not appear in Newcastle Local Court and magistrate Michael Morahan ordered a warrant be taken out for her arrest.

Senior Constable Ross Payne said in a tendered statement that the school's deputy principal saw Miller leave with a laptop computer carry-bag over her shoulder.

After a stint of fence-climbing by Miller, the deputy principal recovered the computer.
